How to recreate a thumbnail style and change one thing

Thumblify Team

4 min read

Recreate starts from a thumbnail somebody has published to the public library and changes one thing you describe in a sentence — the style, the person, the background, the colours. Everything you do not mention stays: the pose, the arms and hands, the objects behind, the lighting, the framing and the text already drawn in the image. It costs 50 credits, produces one image, and is available on any signed-in plan including Free.

How to use it

  1. Open the public library at /library.
  2. Click a thumbnail. The preview has two buttons under it; press Recreate.
  3. Type the change you want in one sentence. The page offers five worked examples: "Change the style to minimalist", "Change the person to a woman", "Change the background to a night city", "Change the colours to warm orange and gold", "Change the expression to shocked".
  4. Press Generate. It takes about 40 seconds.
  5. Download the result, or press Try again to run the same source with a different sentence.

50 credits is half of the Free plan's 100 a month, so a Free account can run Recreate twice in a month and nothing else. On the Free plan the result carries the same watermark a free generation does; on a paid plan it does not.

What it does not do

It does not accept an image from you. The endpoint reads two fields, a thumbnail id and a sentence, and there is no third. The picture comes from the library id, which means you cannot recreate your own file or a thumbnail from another site. If you want your own photograph in a thumbnail, that is a different page and a different price.

It does not return variants. One request, one image. Asking for the same change twice costs 100 credits.

It does not let you choose a model. One model runs this page.

It does not copy the source pixel for pixel. The result is drawn again rather than edited in place, so fine texture — fabric, skin, grain — is reproduced rather than copied. Composition, background and rendered text come back in the same places.

It does not publish anything. Results are written as private and never appear in the public library, whatever the source's own setting was.

Questions people actually ask

Can I recreate a thumbnail that has a person in it? Yes. What the source contains does not restrict it.

Can I use a thumbnail from another creator's YouTube channel? No. The source has to be a thumbnail inside the public library.

Does it work on a thumbnail with no people in it? Yes. The instruction is applied to whatever the picture contains.

What happens if I ask for two changes in one sentence? Both are sent. The prompt asks for one change and names everything else as fixed, so a sentence with two changes in it is a less predictable request, not a refused one.

How long is the instruction allowed to be? 600 characters reach the model. A longer sentence is truncated rather than rejected.

What if it fails? No credits are charged. Credits are reserved before the model is called and released on every failure path, and the screen says so.

Is the result public? No. It is written private, and the public library never receives it.
